Spoken German! - This 1944 language course from the Linguistic Society of America was used by the United States Armed Forces Institute to teach our guys how to speak conversational German. The original manual had 265 pages, but was printed at half-sheet size, which made for a very thick book. Each original page has been scanned and enhanced, and was printed two to a page to reduce printing costs. (Cheaper is good, right?) There are 12 Units (chapters) in this manual. Each Unit had two 78-rpm records for it, with each record having two sides. That's 48 sides of audio in German for you to follow along to learn correct pronunciation. I have digitized and enhanced these old recordings, and provide them as .MP3 files on a CD for you to listen on your computer or CD .MP3 player. These audio files have been digitally cleaned of pops and hiss, which all the old records had, and are very clear and as noise-free as possible. Take a quick lesson by listening to the audio file below while you read the file of Pages 87-88. The remainder of the course is all the same format, but also includes explanations and quizes.
The manual is printed at 8.5 x 11", and is bound with a plastic comb so that it will lay flat and so won't lose your page.
This is a good language course for the basics of conversational WWII era German.
